The largest threat to the land of Grimmvale; Mallory has proclaimed itself as its sole ruler and Queen, though she brings little else but misery to her subjects. Whilst some try fight against her, or secretly disobey her will, they are few and far between, and often meet gruesome ends. In truth, this world is one which Mallory herself has created, and any deviations from her own plans are met with punishment and discipline more unpleasant than one could imagine.

The Dark Queen Mallory first appeared in Grimmvale several years past; borne upon a tide of darkness that washed over the land. All were forced to pledge loyalty to her, and in doing so became her plaything: puppets forced to dance and entertain her, spill each other’s blood or meet torturous ends. Those who first stood against her quickly came to learn of the true suffering she could inflict upon them. For in truth, Mallory was the machinator of this world. Grimmvale was her creation, born long ago as a child filled with hopes, dreams, wishes. 

Those dreams were long dead, and she returned to the land she had created to find catharsis, not in reliving her childhood fantasies, but destroying them. They were the optimistic creations of a naive girl that no longer was. She insisted that they should instead reflect the person she had become, whatever means was realised to achieve that. Whilst she has purported her rule over the people of Grimmvale, she has not completely decimated them, giving them a fleeting hope in a way that she herself sees as sport. Those who fight against her are ignorant to Mallory’s true identity, and that this realm is simply her play thing, a means of escapism to satisfy her sick urges and lash out at a world that only can fight back when she says so. 

Similarly, some of those within Grimmvale are from the same world as Mallory, trapped here in a prison as some form of retribution against evils inflicted upon her in her prior world. Few have memories of their former lives. Those that do must dance to her song and heed her every beck and call, lest they wish to withstand the cycles of suffering she will unleash upon them. Among those who do plan to revolt, there is a single consensus: Mallory must be defeated.
