Rapunzel The Mad - Broken Princess

A beautiful princess with a head of nigh-endless and enchanted golden hair. Rapunzel was locked in a tower by Mallory when she first arrived in Grimmvale, who was envious of her beauty. Yet many brave knights sought out Rapunzel, though their hearts and minds were corrupted by Mallory as they approached. The first that stepped foot in her tower lost himself as he did, attacking Rapunzel. She slew him in self defense, and thus began a long spiral of despair as more wayward knights came to her tower, finding their deaths at her hands. Now her mind is lost, and she kills any who approach her tower and proclaims it as her sole sanctuary.

One of the first things Mallory did when arriving in Grimmvale, after slaying its ruling King, was lock his only daughter in an unreachable tower. The daughter was blessed with golden hair, enchanted and said to be filled with the light of the time of Creation, holding unspeakable power within. Mallory did not wish to slay a child that might become a valuable ally in her later future, with such powers. Thus she was confined to the tower, both despising her beauty, and hoping that there she would eventually reconsider her hatred of the Dark Queen, and choose to join her instead.

In the days she was locked there, Rapunzel sang from the windows of the tower, carrying into the sweeping mountain valley beyond, echoing through pines and across stony ridges. They first caught the ears of a weary knight who had become lost in the Tulgey Woods. He stood at the base of the tower, enamoured by the princess's beauty, and her enchanting voice. For days he watched her, his energy renewed, reinvigorating him to leave the Woods. Days later, he returned. He called to her, asking for a way to climb into her abode so he might cherish her beauty from up close, and relinquish her of her prison. Rapunzel lowered her hair, using its strength to lift the knight up the tower wall. Yet it was here that a sudden fiendish nature took over the night, unbeknownst to Rapunzel, her tower was cursed, and would take the minds of any would-be rescuers or suitors.

As he stepped into the chambers of the princess, his charming and elegant demeanour vanished. Like a rabid wolf he launched himself at her. Her only method to protect herself was with her hair, which wrapped around the man’s ribcage and squeezed, shattering every bone in his torso. He died instantly, and Rapunzel was mortified at what had occurred, dumping his body out the window from which he came. Yet, he was not the only would-be suitor to try. For the man had passed many stories of her beauty across the towns of Grimmvale, boasting that he would take her as his wife. When he did not return, his friends looked for him, finding his crushed body discarded at the base of the tower. Rapunzel was deemed a witch, a siren, a succubus. A creature of the dark who used her beauty to lure men to their doom. The friends of the man spread such stories about her, and whilst some knights took it upon themselves to try slay her, others still found themselves enamoured by her beauty and voice when they first looked upon her.

Yet none succeeded. Dozens of grappling hooks had been thrown into her window. Dozens of knights had been slain by her in defense, and with each knight killed, a piece of her died with them. Now her mind is truly lost. Her soul was broken. Each man that comes to her does so with the intent to harm her, and she instinctively lashes out at anyone who would try to see her, for they could only do so with evil intent. The base of her tower is littered in the corpses of those who have tried, yet it does not deter each would-be hero who believes they are different to those who perished before.
