The 5th Georgia Volunteer Infantry Regiment was raised in Georgia on May 11th, 1861. They first entered combat in the assault of the Santa Rosa Island, off the coast of Florida. The victory on that action resulted in a lot of experience gained for the regiment.

After that, they participated in several campaigns and actions during the war, like the Battle of Chickamauga, where they suffered huge casualties or the Siege of Chattanooga. They surrendered to the Union forces along the rest of the Army of Tennessee.

The 5th Georgia had several different uniforms, but the most iconic one was the green one of the “A” Company, nicknamed “Clinch Rifles” for General Duncan L. Clinch, their commander.

Our figure portrays a Sergeant of that company, dressed in the green uniform and carrying a Mississippi rifle with bayonet.
