At the bottom of a dark and damp cave, from which silence was permanently expelled by the echo of the screams and agonies of those tortured there, resides a hideous beast, a monster that has gathered around itself a retinue of cultists. It's name? Magoth.

More deformed and fearsome than its monstrous aspect is its occult practice. Trapped in a deformed, tumor-ridden body, mounted on legs covered in a thorny carapace, he became something of a prophet. He developed his own method of fortune-telling.

His method is called Martyromancy. He divines the future through the pain and suffering of his tortured victims.

His servants hunt for people alone in the fields, lonely travelers on deserted roads, peasants who stray from their villages, soldiers who desert their garrisons. Captured, the poor victims are taken to Magoth's cave, where they are subjected to the most diverse tortures.

They are hung from the ceiling on hooks attached to the skin, they are fettered with spiked handcuffs, they are gutted, impaled, burned with hot coals. And by the way the tortured stir in agony, by the tone of their cries of pain, Magoth guesses the future.

But does this method work? Can Magoth really predict the future? From the savagery of his entourage, this seems an irrelevant detail.
