Subtlety, elegance, beauty. None of these words come to mind when looking at the BS-44 "Tachanka" Armored Walker.

At the height of the Russian Civil War, right after the death of the Romanovs, the disorganized central government was approached by the secretive Chernaya Zvezda corporation. Ostensibly worried by the communist threat, and in exchange for generous post-war concessions, Chernaya Zvezda threw their technological and industrial might into the balance.

Although a lot of their support was invisible, in the form of intelligence gathering and logistical support, the BS-44 was anything but. Combining great speed over large distances with terrifying firepower, the mechs proved highly effective on the wide-open tundras east of the Urals. During the later stages of the war, the machines were even given the nickname of 'Tachanka', named after the horse-drawn machine gun carriages the Red Army had been using. It was a mocking boast to the Reds. Their machine guns were carried by antiquated carriages, whereas the White Army's machine guns were carried by cutting-edge technology and tons of Cavorite-supported steel.

The Tachanka is still a common sight in many corporate private armies and Boyar's arsenals to this day. Its long-range capabilities, brutal firepower, and surprising reliability have given it a near-legendary status amongst vehicle crews, despite the high casualty rates amongst these same crews.
