Arabi Pasha and his army were attacked by Lord Wolseley’s Expeditionary Force at the Battle of Tel-el-Kebir. On the extreme left flank of the British front were the Indian Contingent with the 197 Naval Brigade with their six Gatlings. As the Brigade charged, with their cutlass-bayonets fixed the Gatlings poured a storm of fire into the enemy cavalry, who quickly departed the field, completing the British victory.
