As Marshal of the Knights Hospitaller, he became one of the principal commanders during the Siege of Acre in 1291. While the city's defenses crumbled under relentless assault, Matthieu repeatedly led charges to drive back the attackers and defend the remaining walls. His bravery during the battle earned him a lasting place among the legendary warriors of the Crusades.

This sculpt depicts Matthieu defending the walls of Acre during those desperate final hours, inspired by the famous historical painting of the battle. Every effort was made to balance historical accuracy with a dramatic pose worthy of the moment.
