Officially Extinct in 1681.

Raphus cucullatus, commonly known as the dodo, was a flightless bird that was endemic to the island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean.

The dodo had a large body, short wings, and a distinctive hooked beak. It is believed that the species was well adapted to its island habitat and had no natural predators before the arrival of humans.

However, the dodo was hunted by sailors for its meat and was also negatively impacted by the introduction of non-native species to the island, such as rats and pigs, which destroyed its eggs and habitat.
