Description
Mononykus olecranus is an extinct genus of small, bipedal theropod dinosaur that lived in what is now Mongolia during the Late Cretaceous period, approximately 70 million years ago.
It is notable for having highly reduced forelimbs, with only one functional digit on each hand, suggesting that it was adapted for a specialized form of locomotion.
It is believed that Mononykus used its powerful hind legs to dig and burrow, possibly for shelter or to search for food
The first fossils of Mononykus olecranus were discovered in 1993 and it was named and described as a new species in 1995.
