Description
Hyracotherium leporinum, commonly known as the "dawn horse," was a diminutive mammal that roamed Earth during the Eocene epoch, approximately 55 million years ago.
Standing at just 10 to 20 inches tall, this early horse exhibited features linking it to both modern horses and small mammals.
With four hoofed toes on its front feet and three on its hind, Hyracotherium leporinum was adapted to forested environments. Its teeth suggest a diet of soft leaves and fruits.
