Description
Giganotosaurus carolinii, one of the largest known terrestrial carnivores, roamed South America during the Late Cretaceous period, around 98 to 97 million years ago.
This theropod dinosaur was discovered in Argentina in 1993 and is named after amateur paleontologist Rubén D. Carolini.
It could reach lengths of over 12 meters and had a massive skull filled with sharp teeth for hunting prey.
Giganotosaurus's robust build and strong limbs suggest it was an apex predator, capable of taking down large herbivores.
