Description
Iguanodon bernissartensis was a large herbivorous dinosaur that lived during the Early Cretaceous period, around 125 million years ago.
It was one of the first dinosaurs discovered and named, known for its distinctive thumb spike, which may have been used for defense or foraging.
This bipedal and quadrupedal dinosaur measured about 10 meters in length and weighed up to 3.5 tons.
Iguanodon bernissartensis had a beak-like mouth adapted for chewing plants and is famous for being found in large numbers in the Bernissart coal mine in Belgium, where numerous well-preserved skeletons were unearthed.
