Description
Antarctopelta oliveroi was a medium-sized ankylosaur dinosaur that lived during the Late Cretaceous period, approximately 70 million years ago.
Discovered on James Ross Island, Antarctica, it was one of the first dinosaurs identified from the continent.
Measuring about 4 meters in length, this armored herbivore had a robust body covered in bony plates and spines for protection against predators. Its teeth and jaws were adapted for chewing tough vegetation.
Fossils of Antarctopelta oliveroi, including skull and postcranial remains, provide valuable insights into the unique adaptations of polar dinosaurs, showcasing their ability to survive in extreme, seasonally variable climates.
