Description

Amargasaurus cazaui was a unique, mid-sized sauropod dinosaur from the Early Cretaceous period, discovered in Argentina.

It measured around 9–10 meters (30–33 feet) long and weighed approximately 2.5 metric tons. What set Amargasaurus apart were its two parallel rows of elongated neural spines along its neck and back, which may have supported a sail or served as defensive structures.

This herbivorous dinosaur likely fed on low-lying vegetation in floodplains and forests.

A member of the Dicraeosauridae family, Amargasaurus cazaui provides key insights into sauropod diversity in South America before the dominance of larger titanosaurs.
