Description
Arizonasaurus babbitti was a predatory archosaur that lived during the Middle Triassic period, around 240 million years ago, in what is now Arizona, USA.
Measuring up to 5 meters long, it had a crocodile-like body with sprawling limbs and a distinctive sail along its back, formed by elongated neural spines.
This sail may have been used for display, thermoregulation, or species recognition.
Despite its reptilian appearance, Arizonasaurus was more closely related to later crocodilians than to dinosaurs.
