Description

Pentaceratops sternbergii was a large ceratopsian dinosaur that lived during the Late Cretaceous period, about 75 million years ago, in what is now New Mexico.

Despite its name meaning “five-horned face,” it actually had three true facial horns, with additional horn-like projections along its enormous frill.

This frill was long and triangular, possibly used for display, species recognition, or defense.

Pentaceratops was a quadrupedal herbivore with a powerful beak and shearing teeth, well adapted for processing tough vegetation.

It represents one of the largest and most impressive horned dinosaurs known from North America.
