Description
Propleopus oscillans was an unusual prehistoric marsupial that lived in Australia during the Pleistocene Epoch, from about 2.5 million to 40,000 years ago.
Commonly known as the giant rat-kangaroo, it was considerably larger than modern rat-kangaroos, reaching weights of up to 70 kilograms (154 pounds).
Propleopus possessed powerful hind limbs, robust jaws, and distinctive serrated teeth. While traditionally considered herbivorous, some scientists suggest it may have been omnivorous or even partially carnivorous due to its specialized dentition.
It inhabited woodlands and open forests, sharing its environment with Australia’s remarkable megafauna before becoming extinct alongside many other large species.
