Description

Stellasaurus ancellae was a medium-sized centrosaurine ceratopsian dinosaur that lived during the Late Cretaceous, approximately 75 million years ago, in what is now Montana, USA.

Named for the distinctive star-like arrangement of ornaments on its impressive neck frill, it represents an important transitional species between earlier and later horned dinosaurs.

Like its relatives, it possessed a parrot-like beak for cropping tough vegetation and likely traveled in herds for protection.

Fossil discoveries from the Judith River Formation have provided valuable insights into ceratopsian evolution, demonstrating how frill ornamentation gradually changed over millions of years through evolutionary processes.
