Description
Akainacephalus johnsoni was a heavily armored ankylosaurid dinosaur that lived during the Late Cretaceous, about 76 million years ago, in what is now southern Utah, USA.
Measuring around five meters long, it was protected by bony plates and spikes covering its body, along with a formidable tail club used for defense against predators.
Its broad skull was decorated with distinctive conical osteoderms, giving it a unique appearance among North American ankylosaurs.
Fossils suggest close evolutionary ties with Asian relatives, indicating ancient dinosaur dispersal between continents. As a low-browsing herbivore, Akainacephalus johnsoni fed on ferns, shrubs, and other ground vegetation.
