Description

Ischigualastia jenseni was a large dicynodont therapsid that lived during the Late Triassic, around 230 million years ago, in what is now northwestern Argentina.

It belonged to a group of herbivorous synapsids characterized by powerful beaks and sturdy bodies adapted for feeding on tough vegetation.

Reaching lengths of up to 3.5 meters, Ischigualastia was among the largest land herbivores of its time. Its robust limbs and barrel-shaped body suggest a slow but strong animal capable of supporting considerable weight.

Fossils from the Ischigualasto Formation provide important evidence of Triassic ecosystems, where dicynodonts coexisted with some of the earliest dinosaurs.
