Description

Cretoxyrhina mantelli was a large mackerel shark that inhabited the oceans of the Late Cretaceous, approximately 100 to 66 million years ago.

Reaching lengths of up to 7 meters, it was one of the dominant marine predators of its time. Its streamlined body, powerful jaws, and sharp, serrated teeth enabled it to hunt a wide variety of prey, including large fish, marine reptiles, and smaller sharks.

Fossils have been discovered across North America and Europe, revealing evidence of active predation through bite marks on bones.

Cretoxyrhina played a vital ecological role in maintaining the balance of ancient marine ecosystems.
