The Caravanserai Modular Openlock Structure

Description

Part of Tribes and Patreon August 2026 release.

This set is part of The Caravanserai Bundle

All the models are test printed in resin and presupported when needed.

- Caravanserai OpenLOCK Structure. Completely modular on all dimensions, with lower and upper walls, borders, bases and domes. This is meant for a Caravanserai, of course, but that's not the only use of the set. In fact, the full structure shown in the render is gargantuan, and mainly meant to show the potential of the release in a render. If you decide not to embark on printing the whole thing, this release still has a lot to offer: from fantasy Persia style dungeons (with the interior walls) to small buildings, shrines, towers (with the a combination of interior and exterior ones) as well as shrines, temples, sections of palaces, decorated gardens, baths, even a town wall. With the domes you can also make arcs of triumph, bridges and ancient aqueducts; with the bases - perhaps the most versatile parts of the release - you can make channels, barriers, any stone layer for building, statues and columns - anything large that can use a base, really! I arranged them to make a small ritual pyramid and four huge columns in the renders above, just to show some extra uses for the set.

Most of these walls come in two visual versions a "plain" one with bricks and a highly decorated one. I added both because, depending on the location - or the part of a single location - one may be preferable to the other. A warehouse room may be less rich and decorated, for example, that the room of rich travelers.

As always, these tiles come with a playability split option for the walls, which you can use to make taller and weirder structures too. All of them are magnetizable and come in a hollowed (for resin) and unhollowed (for FDM) version. I decided to hollow the resin tiles because I wanted to have thick walls for this release, and they would suck so much material for a relatively unnecessary thickness. Plus, by being hollow they weigh way less and make magnetizing way more effective. That said, if you don't like that version but still want to print them in resin, you can always import the unhollowed files in the .lys ones and use the existing resin supports too. The instructions and list give more info on all of this.

Managing this set was challenging - it is huge after all - but I am very happy the result. I can picture characters stopping at this Caravanserai after a long day of travel in the desert - and a few tiring encounters - just to pay the fee and lay down to be suddenly awakened by some commotion in one of the rooms: a demon being freed from a relic unknowingly carried by merchants. Or perhaps someone notices these very tired and presumably loot-loaded adventurers resting after a long day of tomb robbing and decides to try their luck while they sleep. Or maybe the characters are awakened by the trumpets of an alarm, resounding because the hordes of the dead crossed the sand, and this caravanserai is on their path. Everybody should join the defenses or they will pass right through it, forcing all to join their dead march. Considering the dozens of other options you have with these structure parts, I think the idea for adventures, combats and table moments are endless!

As a last note, I believe these walls beg to be drybrushed, whether it is rich terra di siena and sand colors or gold over a lapis lazuli blue base - that will make it look ostentatious for sure! - I can't wait to start painting them (If I find the time, of course...)
