- Roman Legionary Centurion -
Roman Centurions were professional soldiers, responsible for maintaining discipline in their units and for supervising the fighting on the field. Each commanded a century of about 80 legionaries. They often suffered heavy casualties, generally fighting alongside the men they commanded, leading from the front, inspiring their men by example, and displaying the skill and courage that got them to their rank in the first place.
The Centurion armor was similar to that of other officers, with the exception of their helmets, which were topped with a transverse crest that extended from side to side instead of front to back. Their armor was silvered and, unlike the legionaries, they wore their swords(Gladius) on the left. They also wore greaves (shin protectors) to protect their legs. Seil’s Centurion wears chain mail armor – decorated with awards earned in battle. He also carries the vital staff as a symbol of his authority.
