Model Description:
This download contains a highly detailed model of an American T69 Medium tank prototype vehicle. The model features the iconic oscillating-turret design with the autoloaded 90mm cannon. Documentation and references for the real vehicle were rigorously studied to make the model as geometrically accurate as possible without sacrificing printability or durability.
Historical Description:
The T69 Medium was an American prototype started in the early 1950s. The vehicle was derived from the ill-fated T42 project, a medium tank meant to replace the aging Sherman and Pershing tanks as the next generation of American battle tank. The hull was very similar to a later prototype T42, though the turret was entirely different. The T69's turret used the oscillating design due to the cannon needing to be directly mounted to the roof for the automatic loading system to be incorporated. The vehicle would have a magazine with 8 rounds which could be rapidly fired. The cannon was a 90mm T178 which could put out a staggering 30 rounds per minute when firing at full speed.
Ultimately, the vehicle suffered from a high rate of component failure which led to it being rejected for service. The vehicle would continue to undergo testing until 1958 which yielded knowledge for future vehicle projects.
