The British Army used the Ordnance RML 7-pounder mountain gun as a light, portable piece of artillery during the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879. Fitted onto light "Colonial" field carriages with wider wheels to move smoothly through tall African grass, the Royal Artillery famously operated these weapons, with two guns tragically lost at the Battle of Isandlwana before artillery proved decisive at later engagements like Kambula and Ulundi.
