The vast majority of Korean troops during the imjin war were hastily mobilized peasantry. This is not to say the Korean Kingdom did not have an organized military, but its deployment on the northern border and limited capability to redeploy quickly necesssitated such efforts.
These peasantry. as well as many other korean troops, would have been armed and equipped with expense in mind, thus being unarmored or only bearing some equipment.
This set aims to portray archers equipped with a torso cuirass commonly reffered to as "paper armor", most likely due to the method of construction.
