The Mali Empire was the largest in western africa and was extant between 1235 and 1670, roughly. Known for its rich lands and rulers such as Mansa Musa, the kingdom also produced some of the finest cavalry on the continent. While mail and metal armor was used, Quilted textile based equipment was preferred for its colors, patterns, and heat distribution.
