Each 1918 German battalion had its own battery of four light 7.5cm minethrowers (minenwerfer) which would follow behind any attack and provide direct fire support. As well as indirect fire, Minenwerfers were rifled and could use direct fire (often serving as improvised anti-tank weapons) and were mounted on detachable wheeled carriages for mobility.
