Description
Gigantoraptor erlianensis was a gigantic feathered dinosaur that lived in what is now northern China during the Late Cretaceous Period, around 85 million years ago.
Discovered in Inner Mongolia, it belonged to the oviraptorosaur group, relatives of smaller beaked dinosaurs.
Measuring up to 8 meters (26 feet) in length and weighing over 1.5 tonnes, Gigantoraptor was the largest known oviraptorosaur.
It possessed long legs adapted for speed, a toothless beak, and likely bore feathers despite its enormous size. Its diet remains uncertain, but it may have been omnivorous.
Gigantoraptor highlights the remarkable diversity and evolution of feathered dinosaurs.
