Description

Icarosaurus siefkeri was a small gliding reptile that lived in what is now New Jersey, USA, during the Late Triassic, around 220 million years ago.

Measuring about 10–15 centimeters long, it belonged to the drepanosaur lineage and possessed remarkable adaptations for aerial movement.

Its elongated ribs supported a broad membrane of skin, forming wing-like surfaces that allowed Icarosaurus to glide between trees.

Its lightweight skeleton, slender body, and grasping limbs were well suited to an arboreal lifestyle.

Likely feeding on insects and other small prey, Icarosaurus represents one of the earliest known vertebrates to evolve specialized gliding adaptations.
