One of the most remarkable examples of their service was in the “Noble Train of Artillery” (winter 1775–76), when Colonel Henry Knox led teams of oxen to haul captured cannons from Fort Ticonderoga through the snowbound wilderness to Boston—a feat of endurance that proved vital to the Continental Army’s success.
