Sineater

A dark, haunting figure often found in gothic fantasy, horror, or dark myth settings. The Sineater is a gaunt, spectral figure cloaked in tattered robes stained with ash and candle soot. His skin is pallid and stretched thin over his bones. His eyes burn with a hollow, hungry light — sometimes golden, sometimes crimson — reflecting the weight of countless sins devoured over the centuries. The Sineater is burdened by sorrow and isolation. Though he serves a grim purpose — cleansing others of sin — he is never cleansed himself. He is introspective, philosophical, and weary, often speaking in cryptic riddles about guilt, redemption, and damnation. Can absorb the corruption, guilt, or evil deeds of others, purging them at a spiritual cost to himself. Each sin devoured stains his soul further. Can communicate with the lingering spirits of the dead whose sins he has consumed. Cannot die by natural means — only when fully purified or completely consumed by sin.
Background: Once a priest or monk who sought to save others from damnation, the Sineater performed forbidden rites to absorb sin and cleanse the dying. Over time, the ritual twisted him, binding his soul to the filth of humanity. Now, he wanders graveyards, battlefields, and ruins, drawn to the dying and the damned — offering release in exchange for bearing their spiritual poison.
Legends say that when the final sin is consumed and the world is pure, the Sineater will finally rest… but such a day may never come.
