The Mors Ultima
The sacred cycle of life and death maintained by unseen forces beyond the realm of Edyn. There are entities and cults that wish to circumvent the cycle - or even corrupt it. These death cults will often look into the dark arts of necromancy to enslave to do their bidding or to become undead themselves.
Some divine rites or miracles of chance can allow an individual to become infused or attuned to divine power. Most are seen as great clerics or divine sorcerers. Some lose their way and fail to satiate their desire for power. The Mors Ultima is the result of this hubris and tapping into unfathomable power.
There are records about great liches and necromancers attempting to wield power beyond themselves- like the great Agannon ascending to godhood through his Mortal Engine or Saint Maximilliano betraying the High Heavens. None have directly abused the power of Igos, The Deathbringer- the reaper of Edyn.
Throughout history, Igos has selected few worthy to wield his great power. However, one imbued with the power of death decided to try to take the power himself.
In this great act of hubris, they foolishly summoned the avatar of death itself. But, it was wrong, malformed, corrupt and uncontrollable - it had a will of its own. It had one single purpose in the sacred cycle, to bring an end to life. All life.
