A Dwarf Earth Elemi raised far from either of his ancestral homes. Kilroy has forged an identity of his own, becoming a well-travelled and cultured mercenary and adventurer. Now in the wake of the Liturium War’s end, he has returned to his homeland, hoping to aid where he can in rebuilding it, and helping those in need.
A dwarf born from the earth, Kilroy was the strange lovechild of his Dwarven father and Earth Elemi mother: a passionate affair between a local smith and a diplomat sent from Abunae. Yet Kilroy’s mother did not return to her elemental homeland on learning of her child, and saw it instead of a sign from the divine that she should finally use her chance to settle after decades on the road travelling Tharador in a bid to warm relations between the central kingdoms and Greater Abune. Thus, she stayed in the town of Voksnja, settling with the Dwarven smith who she held so dearly in her heart. Though their love was strange in the eyes of the locals, it mattered little to them.
Kilroy was raised in the human town, yet his identity was always a matter he struggled with. Human customs and traditions surrounded him, yet his father tried to instil age old Dwarven tongue and teachings on him, and his mother the same with Abunese culture. Though as he aged, he learned to appreciate the teachings of his parents, as a child he cared little for them, being only a handful of other Dwarf families in the town, he simply wished to instead be like those around him: human. Not Dwarven, not an Elemi. Yet his struggle was in vain, for nothing could change who he was, and the children around him constantly reminded him of that fact.
When he came of age, he bid farewell to Voksnja and his parents, for a time. Joining a small mercenary company known as the Gilded Rose, he was given the chance to see Tharador beyond the borders of his home town. Mostly escorting caravans across kingdoms or fighting off a group of bandits or goblins that had been terrorizing villagers, Kilroy was exposed to all walks of life and culture on the diverse continent. It was here that he found himself: a worldly Earth Elemi Dwarf with a penchant for helping people, provided the price was right, of course. Though he took satisfaction in helping others, he always needed the coin, a nest egg for him to buy his father’s forge in Voksnja and one day let his parents retire, with him taking it over.
In the Liturium War, he had many close brushes with death. Though he earned more than enough to pay for his father’s forge, he felt unsettled, unrested, while working there. Voksnja was home, but it now felt unfamiliar, as though he had become estranged from it in his years away, like war had erased any familiarity he held to the place. Hiring a local to run the shop in his place, he left Voksnja once again, now taking on random jobs and work where he can across Formen, hoping to find his peace in helping those who need it. Now the disappearance of the village of Nörrgus has caught his attention, and he aims to find what happened to the missing villagers, though the coin of Sjöstard’s jarl will certainly motivate his search.
