Up until a few decades prior, Noctra de Blanc had lived a comfortable life as an everyday citizen under the tutelage of Arthur Belfrie’s vampire colony on Duskweave Isle. Yet when they were driven from their home, Noctra and a band of other malcontent followers of Belfrie flew the coup, disillusioned by their leader placating to the whims of mortals. Noctra, claiming her old noble blood as birthwright, led her people to the abandoned home of her family in Greypeak’s South, Castle Beaufax. There, for the last decade, they have restored the decrepit castle as best they can, while hosting blood and lust-fueled soirees, inviting kindred and cattle alike to their events.
Centuries ago, Noctra de Blanc had been turned by her ancestor in the catacombs of Castle Beaufax. Noctra was an anomaly within her family, the bastard half-elven child of the Baron with a Nan Thalian courtesan, raised within the courts much to the chagrin of the Baroness. When Noctra had come of age, her step-mother had devised a way to be rid of the child, whose recent legitimisation now threatened the status and prestige of her own children, and the de Blanc family, tainting it with Elven blood.
Noctra was led into the catacombs beneath their castle by her step-mother, under the pretense that it was an age-old tradition to honour their ancestors that came before. Yet, she knew that locked deep within the catacombs was the ancient shame of house de Blanc, one that would free her from their current shame of a half-elven mutt. In the heart of the catacombs, behind a dozen chains and padlocks, lived the family’s ancestor and founder, Theldranax, an ancient vampire. Noctra was pushed into his chambers, locked within, never to be seen again. Yet, Theldranax took pity on his descendant, seeing her Half-Elven blood, like his own. Theldranax pierced her mind, and gave to her the visions of his own past. Noctra thus willingly let him feed on her, turning her into a spawn of his own. From the depths of the catacombs, she enacted her vengeance, and his. In a fit of bloodlust and blind rage, she slaughtered the castle: her step-mother, father, half-siblings, servants. None were spared. When clarity returned, the guilt overwhelmed her, she locked Theldranax away and abandoned the castle, wandering the plains of Greypeak for years, until she found a home with Arthur Belfrie and his clan in Duskweave Isle.
There she learned of the Creed of Thrasliche, a creed anointed unto all Thrasliche Vampires; those whose wills were their own, not bound to the machinations of the dark divine Myrothlir. Arthur’s teachings saw that their people should not be bound by bloodlust, but instead create a guilt-free, sustainable food source: a werewolf colony. One that they at first, hunted, but then took as livestock, breeding and slaughtering them to sate their needs. When the Isle of Duskweave became a battlefield between the living and undead over a decade ago, Arthur’s colony betrayed the other denizens of the isle, siding with the mortals in exchange for amnesty. Many of his followers disagreed with the decision, including Noctra, who abandoned him thereafter when his followers searched for a new home. Noctra, leading a new group, returned to her family’s abode, centuries after she had left it in slaughter.
Time had claimed much of it, but with the aid of her followers and the enlisting of labor from nearby villages, much of it has been restored in the last decade. Now, Noctra has reclaimed her family name of de Blanc, and declared herself the Baroness over the land, after the mysterious disappearance of the previous Baron shortly before her arrival. Her followers have abandoned the Thraslichian tenets instilled on them by Arthur Belfrie, and in turn Castle Beaufax has become a prized destination for vampires across Tharador’s north, owing to the lavish soirees and bloody balls regularly thrown by Baroness Noctra.
