War Owlbear - Old Betty

An Owlbear raised in cartel captivity, kept as a pet by Marchese di Houf at first, before becoming a machination of his war waged against the gangs of Grimgate. With a saddle for mounting, Old Betty is the warmount of the Nova-Rossa whose extraordinary power can make even the steadiest legs quake in fear. Though she has only seen combat a handful of times, it has never ended well for her foes.

Found as a cub, abandoned and meek on the roadside on the Tradver Highway in Belfrie. Marchese di Houf ordered his men to feed the creature with spare rations, and bundle it into their cart for transport back to Velandria. The small cub, which Marchese came to call “Old Betty” would become his sole companion in an underbelly filled with backstabbers, money grabbers and opportunists. All Old Betty would want is a bowl of beef or fish every few days, and a chance to lash out with her predator’s instinct, which Marchese provided to her in droves, using her as an execution method for traitors, most of all.

As years passed by and she grew too large to keep within the dens of the cartel, Marchese procured an old abandoned warehouse in Trader’s Respite, specifically to house her, and begin training her to become a warbeast. Rumours have since circled in Grimgate’s underbelly of gangland warfare of a monstrous beast unleashed on the enemies of the Rossa Cartel, tearing them apart in the streets before mysteriously disappearing. Though the Grimgate Order Force has tried to investigate such reports several times, they always turn up empty handed; save for a large pouch of coin donated by an anonymous philanthropist for their troubles.

Now with the Rossa Cartel dissolved and Marchese founding the Nova-Rossa, Old Betty has become something of a mascot for the new crime syndicate. A saddle has recently been installed alongside her armour, while Marchese gears up for all-out war against the Underkeepers and anyone else who wants to snuff out his place in Grimgate. Old Betty will ensure anyone who wishes to, will meet an untimely end, and Marchese might be laughing from atop her, watching his foes gored and devoured.
