A licensed arcanist employed by the Tharadori Scholars Association. Carina, as a licensed practitioner, uses her magic mostly to aid her in her academic pursuits. Currently she resides in the town of Westlook, following texts that suggest an ancient ruin from the Age of Creation may reside somewhere near the town. A remnant of when Mindoriel’s Spawn first clashed with Tharador. So far her research has been unfruitful, as the residents of Westlook seem hellbent on misdirecting her at every turn.
Edimir was the home of Carina, Baldur’s naval powerhouse renowned for its masterful ship builders and splendid marinas. Owing to its place upon the Grey Sea, it is one of the more culturally diverse cities in the kingdom, with many scholars hailing from Belfrie, Draksborne and even Elven diplomats from Nan Thalias. It was in this environment that Carina was raised: her parents both being scholars at the University of Edimir. However, it would seem Carina was not destined for a life of mundane scribe work, for in her youth she accompanied her parents on a trip to Draksborne, whereby she was told of her arcane acuity. After learning this, Carina’s parents organised for her to be schooled at the University of Canos in Draksborne, where she resided until she was a young woman, returning to Baldur and gaining her Breath Wielder’s License, where she could practice the arcane arts, in a very limited sense. Her magic could not be used to harm or hinder another person, nor influence their mind for her own benefit.
Carina indeed never sought to use her magic for such purposes anyway. She joined the Tharadori Scholars Association, hoping to instead follow the pursuits of her parents, with a particular interest in ancient histories and cultures from the Age of Creation. It was this interest that led to her uncovering texts that referred to an ancient dark shrine used by Mindoriel’s Spawn in the lands of Baladir, in the shadows of the great mountains that once divided Tharador from the Arm of Mindoriel. Westlook matched the description in the texts, and she set out there on a solo expedition, hoping to survey the town and its surroundings.
So far, her search has proved unfruitful. Nothing has turned up suggesting anything of the sort within the town, save for the extremely peculiar and hostile nature of the locals. While most might chalk it up to small-town xenophobia, Carina believes these people may indeed be influenced by the hidden ruins instead. She has continued her search, though at every turn she is either threatened or impeded by the locals. Whilst she still relents, she worries she may need to use Minera’s Breath in a way that her license would forbid. Doubly worrying is the fact that two Inquisitors are in the town, who have held ill-regard for her since they arrived. If they caught her using forbidden magicks, it’s unlikely she would have a chance to explain herself.
