Here´s a little Background story. :)
Despite missing wings and thus the ability to fly, and their considerably smaller size, half Dragons are much closer to their large, flying cousins and much further away from the average Lizard than one might think on the first glance.
they share their love of gold and all things shiny and the desire to hoard them in their lair, just like the common dragon, although on a much smaller scale. They are smart, devious Creatures and they too can live to a very long age.
When they find riches worthy of their possesion and administration they take them bit by bit. Over time stacks of gold dwindle, their former owners confused and wondering. "Didn´t i count 3 coins more yesterday?"
their ability to produce flame deep down within their belly when feeling agitated left many merchants and other owners of shiny things staring burnt and bewildered onto the ashen ruins of their former the live to tell the tale.
