Among the military orders of the Crusades, the Order of Saint Lazarus possessed a particularly close association with disease and the care of those afflicted by leprosy. Established in the Crusader Kingdom of Jerusalem, the community developed within a world where religious devotion and the physical realities of sickness existed side by side. Its later military character created the striking image of a warrior brother serving beneath the cross of Saint Lazarus while living in the shadow of the same disease his Order was known for confronting.
The bust concentrates on the human story at the center of the full figure. Disease has visibly scarred the knight's face, while his lowered expression captures pain, fatigue, and the effort required to continue. His mail coif, hood, clothing, equipment, and insignia preserve his identity as a military brother, while the larger scale gives painters considerably more room to explore the damaged skin, worn fabric, metal, leather, and other textures that define the character.
Designed as a dedicated character study, the bust isolates the knight from the larger church environment and places the emphasis on his expression and physical condition. It is intended as a display and painting piece for anyone who wants to concentrate on the portrait and material details of the Knight of St. Lazarus.
Included files: The Knight of St. Lazarus bust is supplied in solid and hollow versions, with supported and unsupported STL files included. Files are prepared for resin 3D printing.
