Description

Aenocyon dirus, commonly known as the dire wolf, was a formidable prehistoric carnivore that roamed North America during the Pleistocene epoch.

This robust canid species resembled modern wolves but exhibited distinctive features, including a more massive build and stronger jaws.

Aenocyon dirus was a formidable predator, likely hunting large herbivores like bison and horses in packs.

Sadly, this iconic species faced extinction at the end of the Pleistocene, disappearing around 9,500 years ago, leaving behind a legacy preserved in fossilized remains.
