Model Description:
This download contains a highly detailed model of an early-production StuG III AusF A assault gun, featuring the long-barreled 7,5cm L/43 cannon and a plethora of details faithfully recreated to represent the early version of the vehicle. Documentation and references for the real vehicle were rigorously studied to make the model as geometrically accurate as possible, except in the cases where printability would have to be sacrificed (such as the fender thickness).

Historical Description:
The StuG III was the most produced German armored vehicle during World War II. Referred to as an assault gun, early versions of the vehicle possessed the short-barreled 7,5cm L/24 cannon and were used for infantry support. As the war progressed, the StuG III gradually shifted to playing a role more akin to that of a tank destroyer, being upgraded to the L/43 cannon with the StuG III AusF F, and later the L/48 with the AusF F8 and G. The early models featured 50mm of frontal armor, a decent amount for the time. The late models of the vehicle would be upgraded to feature up to 80mm of armor, in addition to the aforementioned long barreled guns.

The StuG III AusF F was the first version of the vehicle to mount a long-barreled cannon, with 366 being produced in 1942, before the more numerous StuG III AusF G entered production. The StuG III was based on the Panzer III chassis and featured the same 6-road wheel/side torsion bar suspension that was present from the Panzer III AusF E onward. The StuG III removed the turret from the Panzer III, reducing its weight and cost, and replaced it with a fixed casemate structure allowing for a more powerful cannon to be mounted, albeit by sacrificing some tactical flexibility.

The StuG III AusF F would be upgraded to the StuG III AusF F/8, with the L/48 cannon, additional armor, and using the hull from later panzer III's (J+).

In Armored Advance:
In armored advance the StuG III AusF F is optimal for cheap, long-range firepower. The cannon can fire accurately at distance and features enough penetration to get through a range of hostile armored vehicles. The cannon also features decent damage, comparable to other 75s. The armor fails to hold up for the mid-war period however, being vulnerable to many incoming shots. The main survivability of the vehicle comes from its ability to hit more reliably at range, and to use terrain features to reduce the opponent's accuracy.
