Description

Model Description:
This download contains a highly detailed model of an early M60 Patton with the 105mm cannon and floodlight on a modified M48 turret. Two versions of the turret are included: one with, and one without the fabric dust cover around the mantlet. Documentation and references for the real vehicle were rigorously studied to make the model as geometrically accurate as possible without sacrificing printability or durability.

Historical Description:
The M60 Patton was an American Main Battle Tank (MBT) introduced in 1959 to supplant the M48 Patton. Over 15,000 M60s of varying evolutions were produced between 1959 and 1983. Early versions of the vehicle used a modified version of the M48 turret, upgraded to mount a 105mm M68 cannon. The M60 featured a diesel engine which produced 750 horsepower, an upgrade to the M48's 650 hp gasoline engine. In contrast to many other NATO MBTs, the vehicle had relatively thick and angled armor, though it was introduced at a time where more sophisticated munitions had begun to make armor less effective overall. A fascinating historical note; the armor was made into a flat plate in contrast to the cast "boat" hull of the M48 as the M60 was originally meant to have composite armor, though this never happened in practice.
