T-54 Mod. 1949 - Soviet Medium Tank - 1/72 Scale

Description

Model Description:
This download contains a highly detailed model of a T-54-2, the 1949 iteration of the vehicle. This variant sees the first version of the "frying pan" turret, which was not present on the T-54-1 (1947). This turret would be modified going forward to become the iconic turret seen on the T-54-3 and T-55 vehicles. Documentation and references for the real vehicle were rigorously studied to make the model as geometrically accurate as possible without sacrificing printability or durability.

Historical Description:
The T-54/55s were a family of Soviet medium tanks, later considered Main Battle Tanks (MBTs) which entered service shortly after World War 2 (1948) and remain in service with some militaries as of 2026. This model represents a 1949 model T-54-2 tank. The T-54-2 is identifiable by the sort of "neck" still visible on the rearmost half of the hemispherical turret. It also features thicker armor than later versions, which would be trimmed down due to the ineffectiveness of armor against contemporary ammunition. It also featured wider tracks and some internal modifications.

The T-54 was a successor to the T-44, which itself never saw combat but acts as an intermediate between the iconic T-34 tanks and the T-54. The T-54 mounts a 100mm D-10T cannon which is significantly more powerful than the 85mm equipped T-44 and T-34-85. The T-54 also boasted thick armor, with 120mm sloped at 60 degrees on the early models and a 205mm thick turret face. Despite the strong armor, the vehicle only weighed 36 tons and could reach speeds up 51kph.
