"The first sightings of these scavengers were reported in south-eastern France, not far from Avignon, which had just fallen. Since then, with the holy war continuing to spread across more and more no man's land, their proliferation has been impossible to control. They can be found prowling around every battlefield during lulls in the fighting, feeding on the rotting flesh of those who have fallen in battle. Moving in packs, they attack lone souls and small groups that have had the misfortune to cross their path. Rumours say that some heretics are trying to tame them because, once controlled, their strength, speed and, above all, their ability to move silently in the dark would make them a lethal and utterly destructive weapon..."
