Sea forts are usually built walling off the perimeter of islets where natural defences like cliffs aren’t present.
Generally these small islands tend to have natural bays in which to build a safe fortified base with ship docks and temporal hosting facilities for their crew. In other cases, these transit moorings are built through amazing engineering works that are strongly fortified for their defence since most of them are built in very strategic points along the most important routes and connections to other city states and colonies.
