The Torwyth Tractor

The Torwyth is a Tollyn Maeryn medium assault tractor. The design dates from the early 1700s and has been in continual use since its adoption. The Torwyth is not a sophisticated vehicle, but it is a practical one, built to do a specific job and built to last, which is why it's still doing that job while more ambitious designs from the same period have long since been scrapped.

Individual vehicles have accumulated decades of service history, repair records that span multiple conflicts, and the kind of institutional knowledge that comes from crews who learned on these machines and trained the next generation on the same ones. Torwyth mechanics know every quirk of the engine, every tendency of the gun mount, and every reason the left track needs more attention than the right in cold weather. This accumulated expertise partially compensates for the vehicle's age, keeping machines operational that a less experienced maintenance corps would have retired years ago.

The vehicle's gun lacks the range and penetration of more modern Crusader tractor armament, and its speed limits tactical flexibility in the fast-moving operations that Crusader doctrine increasingly favors. Torwyth commanders have worked hard to find their place when integrating with their Crusader allies. The Torwyth uses its substantial frontal armor to establish blocking positions, support rhyfler assaults against prepared defenses, and to hold ground that lighter vehicles would be pushed off. The vehicle excels at exactly this kind of deliberate, methodical fighting that characterized Maer Braech's defensive campaigns before the Crusade arrived. This leaves the tractors of their Crusader allies free to carry the assault forward.
