Emperor Charlemagne

King of the Franks between 768 and 814 AD, and Emperor of the Carolingian Empire from 800, charlemagne was a great unifier of western europe after the collapse of the Western Roman Empire. Charlemagne enacted a number of reforms in law, religion, millitary matters and governmental administration, and was the defender of the Papacy from 774. Due to his influence on the course of european history, he is often considered the "Father of Europe" in historical academia.
