A maiden of the Church of the Tharameni, Evana has come to Grimhelm amongst the fleet as a healer and battle maiden. Though her purpose also is an attempt to have her associates in Grimhelm vie for peace with Field Marshal Kurt Williams, in hopes that negotiations might be reached to punish those responsible for the attack on Draksborne’s embassy. She aims to try establish contact with the Vicar of Grimhelm, Atticus, before the siege can claim both their lives.
Born into the sacred halls of Amberstone, one of the oldest monasteries in Draksborne dedicated to the Tharameni, Evana was raised under the twin tenets of Horauthin: compassion and retribution. She was a child of both war and mercy: taught to mend the wounded with one hand and strike down the wicked with the other. While many of her sisters followed the quiet path of healers and scholars, Evana chose the sword as well as the scripture. When the call came for able bodies to engage in peacekeeping operations in Baldur, she knew her place was not in the cloisters but on the battlefield. When the Draksborne fleet set sail for Grimhelm, she was among them, not as a soldier, but as a mediator. Her mission one of both steel and diplomacy. Her faith taught her that war, when waged for justice, was not evil, but if peace could be grasped before more blood was spilled, she had to try.
Yet Grimhelm is a city of war, and its streets do not welcome idealists. Field Marshal Kurt Williams is no stranger to betrayal, nor is he a man quick to compromise. Evana knows that even before the first negotiations can begin, she must seek out Vicar Atticus, the city’s war-priest and a fellow patron of Horauthin. If anyone can sway Williams, it is Atticus. But with fire, steel, and rebellion closing in on all sides, time is slipping away.
The siege looms. The city stands on the precipice of ruin. In the coming days, Evana must choose—will she remain steadfast in her quest for peace, or will she take up her sword in Grimhelm’s defense, watching diplomacy fall like ashes at her feet?
