A Leviathan of the deep, holding no relation to the Vosinderi of Inderimaeth. Old Mawgrin is an ancient spawn of Quorenderi, and holds nothing but contempt and evil towards any sailors who are unfortunate enough to be swallowed whole by this behemoth of the seas. Though many think Old Mawgrin to be a tall sailor’s tale, there are few who have seen the creature and lived to tell the tale.
An ancient spawn of evil that has lurked the depths of the open seas since the First Era. Old Mawgrin has had many names in those years, with a moniker earnt in each culture for its deeds and horrors. In Edrador’s East it is known as Mimizukura, the Worm Whale, where few mariners have seen its entire gargantuan body breach the waves. Yet in Tharador’s waters, those fortunate enough to live through an attack by the beast have only seen its gaping mouth, thus the moniker, Mawgrin.
Many sailors think the tale of Old Mawgrin to be one conjured by those who have delved too deeply into rum or dreampowder, but its victims whose twisted and bloated corpse lay trapped in sunken holes beneath the waves would argue otherwise, if they could. Thousands of trapped souls lay in the dark depths of the sea, in Quorenderi’s domain, thanks to Old Mawgrin. For it is Quorenderi who birthed and beset this beast upon the mortals of Tharador, and though the Leviathans of Inderimaeth keep it at bay, they hold no power beyond Tharador’s seas, where it waits for its next meal, striking during a storm or raging swells.
Now it has found a new home, the isle where the Damned Galleon lays in its final rest. Many foolhardy treasure hunters flock to the waters surrounding it in search of the bounty of gold, yet many find their death at the hands of Old Mawgrin instead. Thus with few ships returning from their voyages here, it is said that the isle is indeed cursed, since none have survived to tell the tale of how their ship was swallowed not by the sea, but by a beast.
