Among the Drow of Irinax, the Blessed were the first to give themselves entirely to the service of their prophet Vaezirak. Among them were clerics, sorcerers, elite warriors and even ordinary citizens with a fervent loyalty to their arachnid divine. Now their bodies have succumbed to the Eldraeth, and are slowly being broken down until naught remains but the fungus that swells inside them.
When Dirthana first presented Lord Vaezirak to her followers, the Irinaxi Drow were left awestruck. Mesmerized by what they saw as the incarnation of Irinax, they prostrated themselves before the creature, willing to give any part of themselves in service to it, their messiah, so they might further enact her will. By serving her incarnation, their messiah, they were promised a place by Irinax’s side in the great void of ever-after. Thus the prostrated Drow allowed themselves to be consumed by the ichorous substance of the Eldraeth, their bodies broken down and rebuilt in agony as the fungus consumed them.
As they arose, their will, like Vaezirak’s was not bound to their divine Irinax, but to the Eldraeth, the parasitic fungus continuing to perpetuate its deceit upon the other Irinaxi Drow, that giving themselves to the fungus was in service to their divine. These became the Blessed, those consumed by the Eldraeth but whose bodies rose again from the brink of death, puppeteered like marionettes by the cosmic substance.
Now they are Vaezirak’s minions: expendable grunts to be discarded at will in his service, or the service of his officers and most devout followers. Though their bodies are slowly decaying from the onset of the fungus, it is of little matter. By the time their bones have turned to dust and their shambling body can no longer hold itself up, the Eldraeth would have claimed ten new victims in their stead.
